A Foul Smelling Flower Makes A Smelly Stop At The Bangor Public Library

3

Bangor - The Bangor Public Library has been raising a stink.

The Children's Department has been home to a fully bloomed titan arum.

The flower is better known as a "corpse flower" because of its terrible smell.

The flower produces the smell when it blooms each year to attract the insects that pollinate it.

Despite the smell, the library is excited to show off this flower, which hails originally from Indonesia.

"We've had people come in to just sort of look at the plant. It is sort of a unique experience because it's not indigenous to this area so to be able to see it in its native habitat, unless you are a world traveler, is probably not going to happen, so why not see it here while you can," said Shayne Layman, Youth Services Librarian at the library.

The library will continue to have the corpse flower on display while it's in full bloom.

But that only lasts for a few days...so go take a whiff while you can!
