Snow Storm in Maine Boosts Local Economy

3

Bangor, Hermon - It may almost be spring, but it is not looking like it here in Maine thanks to a late winter snowstorm.

While some people are loving the winter weather, others are absolutely sick of it.

"I've always liked the snow. It gives people with snowmobiles the chance to go out and enjoy life," said Benjamin Hunt, a Brooks resident.

"I am so ready for the snow to be done and the sun to shine," said Bangor resident Pat Hickey.

Whether you like the snow or not, some local businesses consider it "white gold."

At Danforth's Supermarket in Hermon, people were stocking up all day with necessities for the storm.

"It's very good for business because typically Tuesdays and Wednesdays are slower days, so to have a snow day like this is great," said employee Shannon Bond.

Workers at Glidden Autobody in Bangor know that the snow will help business as well.

"We absolutely love this weather. Let alone it being beautiful and all that, but people have some accidents on the way home. It's the perfect time of day for it, everybody is at school and all that and then they have to rush to get home," said Harold Brownell, manager of the auto body shop.

They wish for everyone's safety first of course.

"All we ask for is that nobody gets hurt. We can do this all day long, fixing them (cars), but we can't fix people," said Brownell.

Despite benefiting the local economy, some Mainers just wish they were somewhere warmer.

"I just came back from Florida a week ago. I definitely came back too soon," said Hickey laughing.
