Bangor -
The Bangor city council will, once again take, up the issue of sex offender residency restrictions.
In 2010, a proposed ordinance failed in an 8 to 1 vote.
At Monday night's meeting of the Government Operations Committee, it was decided that same ordinance will go before full council for a first reading next Monday.
If passed, certain sex offenders would be limited to living outside a 750-foot radius around any elementary or middle school or any publicly-owned property where children are the primary users.
The issue will then go to committee or workshop to discuss details.
City manager Kathy Conlow suggested the city use geographic information system data to map zones where registered sex offenders wouldn't be able to live and evaluate its effects.
