A University of Maine at Machias professor receives a boost for shellfish research.
Doctor Brian Beal has received a $100,000 grant from the Maine Economic Improvement Fund.
The money will let researchers examine the production potential for blue mussels and arctic surfclams using current methods and testing new ones.
Beal says it could create new economic opportunities for the shellfishing industry in downeast Maine.
