Ellsworth -
A fire in the late 30's almost took away a vibrant piece of Maine history.
Thankfully, the downtown Ellsworth fixture was rebuilt in a grand fashion.
Some local children got to help them celebrate a big anniversary Tuesday.
The Grand Theater in Ellsworth has been providing entertainment for 75 years.
"It's historic, it's vintage, it's happening, it's hot. The Grand is just vital to downtown. I think there would be boarded up buildings. We bring forty thousand, fifty thousand people a year to downtown Ellsworth. It keeps downtown Ellsworth alive," said Zoe Alexis Scott, Executive Director.
The beloved landmark has provided countless shows over the years.
The Dancing Gauchos, a husband and wife team, have performed in 36 countries. They're part of the Performing Arts for Children Series and part of the Grand's 75th birthday celebration. They're bringing their culture to the kids.
"We like to let them know things about Argentina they have never heard and spark their interest in not only Argentina, but any other country," said Sergio and Martha Martinez.
The kids and teachers love it.
"It was good. I enjoyed the country and the moves," said third grader Cameron Ward.
"I loved the show and my favorite part was the whips,' said fourth grader Sylvester Mays.
"My favorite parts was the flaming rope things," said sixth grader Atty Brown.
"They do a really good job at choosing people to come do these shows," said Mays.
"It's been years that they've been bringing academic, educational programs to our community, and I think it's extremely important and I hope it continues," said Michelle Wagstaff, a teacher at Hancock Grammar School.
