Bangor - In the summer of 2012, 2-year-old Camden Bryant was diagnosed with lukemia.

For more than a week, he's been back at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

"He's here this week because he had so much chemo. One of the chemos affected his liver, which enlarged and he got all this fluid in his belly, and it was pressing on his organs," said Sheri Bryant, Camden's mother.

Camden is doing much better, but still has a long road ahead.

"His belly has shrunk a lot, which we're happy for, so we're just waiting for the swelling to go down, so hopefully we can go home soon," said Bryant.

On Friday, Ronald McDonald paid a visit the pediatrics unit at the hospital.

It was a bit overwhelming for Camden at first.

But, it didn't take long to warm up to the famous clown.

"It's all about making new friends and seeing new faces and creating a smile any place that we can," said Ronald, the Chief Happiness Officer of McDonald's.

"Ronald McDonald House Charities and the local operators have been huge supporters for the hospital. Most recently, helping to build a new cancer center for us, but also just throughout the years with their support. It's like we have today with Ronald coming to visit the children and also financial support to help us upgrade and build new facilities," said Josh Scroggins, Director of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals of EMHS.

It's a facility little Camden will have to visit often.

"We'll continue chemo in a couple of weeks, and so he'll have to go through chemo another two and a half years," said Bryant.

While he endures his treatments, it's the outpouring of love and thoughtful surprises like a visit from Ronald that just may be the best medicine.

"I think it just lifts his spirits and makes him realize that he's not alone and that love just nourishes him and helps him heal, so we're very thankful," said Bryant.
