Brewer -
Engineering, computer programming, and construction are things that might seem a little mature for some pre-teens, but a group of students at Brewer Community School are turning Legos into their own creations
Eighth grade student, Nathaniel Wilcox said "I just love robots and Legos. I love Legos. I've got a whole collection of Legos in my room."
Motors, sensors, wires, and of course, Legos. They are the building blocks for a new robotics program.
The Brewer Community School and Maine Robotics have teamed up to help get students from third to eighth grade interested in engineering and computer programming.
Director of Maine Robotics, Thomas Bickford said "All those robots that they're working with have to be programmed, downloaded to the computer, so when they hit the button, it goes off.
Fifth grade student, Rowan Andrews said "I thought we were just going to see it, I didn't think it would actually move, but when it did it was awesome.
Over a 10 week period these students learn all aspects of engineering, including a little bit of history, but in the end, the robot they create, is all their own.
