Superintendent May Have to Cut Positions if Budget Cuts Happen

3

Brewer - The superintendent of schools in Brewer says he might have to cut 24 to 27 positions if proposed budget cuts in Augusta happen.

Superintendent Daniel Lee says most of the jobs lost would be teachers, but administrators and other groups would also be affected.

Lee says in Brewer, their teacher to student ratio is already not where it should be by state standards.

The state is cutting millions of dollars in education funding, and Lee says current proposals could hurt school districts even more.

By law, Lee would need to let people know if they're out of a job in April.

There is a meeting about proposed budget cuts Thursday, March 7th, at 6:30 at the Brewer Auditorium.
