Michaud Considering Run For Governor

3

Portland - Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud is considering following the same path of his predecessor in returning to Maine to run for governor.

Michaud said his primary focus now is serving as ranking Democrat on the House Veteran's Affairs Committee, but he said he's being encouraged to challenge Republican Gov. Paul LePage. He tells the Portland Press Herald that "I definitely will be looking at it."

Michaud has represented Maine's 2nd District since 2003 after John Baldacci left Congress to run for governor.

Some Democrats are uneasy about the gubernatorial race even though it's 20 months away. They're seeking to avoid a repeat of the last three-way race in which LePage beat independent Eliot Cutler and Democrat Libby Mitchell. Cutler already has announced that he intends to run again.
