Prosecutors Request Mental Evaluation for 75-Year-Old Charged With Murder

3

Biddeford - Maine prosecutors are asking that a 75-year-old man charged with killing two teenagers undergo a mental evaluation.

The Maine Attorney General's Office has requested that James Pak be given what's known as a mental responsibility for criminal conduct evaluation.

Pak, who is charged with murder, is accused of shooting Derrick Thompson, 19, and his girlfriend, Alivia Welch, 18, on Dec. 29th after arguing with them about late rent, snow shoveling and parking at his Biddeford home. He's also charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting Thompson's mother, who survived.

Thompson and his mother rented an apartment attached to Pak's house, and Welch often stayed there.

Defense attorney Joel Vincent said that he needs to review evidence before deciding whether to oppose the state's request.
