The owner of Eastern Maine Medical Center and the parent company of Portland's Mercy Hospital are another step closer to merging.
Federal regulators have approved Mercy Health System of Maine to merge with Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems.
They must still get a certificate of need from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and approval from the Vatican.
Mercy Hospital would remain non-profit and would retain its Catholic identity.

A tornado estimated to be a mile wide has obliterated part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. The tornado hit the city of Moore, where two schools were hit, along with a hospital and a movie theater. Anna Werner reports.
