Trooper's Gun Discharges During Training

3

Augusta - Maine State Police are examining a lieutenant's service weapon that accidentally discharged during a training class.

Authorities say Lt. Shaun Currie was adjusting his holster when the gun went off Wednesday morning during a computer training session in Augusta. No one was hurt.

They say the gun was in Currie's holster at the time and the trigger wasn't exposed.

State police say the department's armory will conduct a series of tests. Technicians will likely try to re-create the situation that led to the discharge to determine if there's a problem with the weapon.

Authorities will also contact the manufacturer of the weapon.

Officials tell the Portland Press Herald, it doesn't appear there was any misconduct and it's unlikely that Currie will be disciplined.
