New Bangor College Program Creates A Spark Amongst Students

3

Bangor - The newest program at Beal College in Bangor really seems to be heating up.

"We're nine weeks into it now," said Jesse Crosby, the welding program director.

The welding technology program seems to be getting glowing reviews from some of its new students.

"I love being here and being in the booth and welding and doing all the fun stuff," said student Elizabeth Richards.

"We've really discovered some hidden talent in these guys, and I'd say that 100% of these guys are doing great. Looks like we're going to have a successful class," said Crosby.

For the class to find success after they get their degrees, a strong, hands-on approach is taken here.

"We keep then in the shop about 60% of the time and about 40% in the classroom. It's a school, but we try to keep it as close as we can without giving them too much comfort, so they know what it's going to be like when they go out into the field," said Crosby.

During the two-year associate's degree program, students will walk away with three certifications within the field, along with knowledge in pipe-fitting.

"It's a very versatile career path, you know. I had a fascination for welding ever since I was a little kid and once I was able to try it, I was hooked," said student Tyler Boyd.

Beal College is offering a two-day clinic March 22nd and 29th to anyone who would like to attend.

The assignment will be making a wood stove.

The $275.00 fee includes materials and one-on-one time with instructors.
