Hearing for Fairfield Girl Charged in Baby Death Closed to Public

3

Fairfield, Skowhegan - A judge ruled Monday a competency hearing for a 11-year-old girl from Fairfield accused of killing a 3-month-old baby will be closed to the public.

State prosecutors pushed to keep this week's hearing open.

The girl was ten when she was charged in the death of Brooklyn Foss-Greenaway last summer.

The baby was staying overnight in the girl's home and being babysat by her mother.

Attorney John Martin of Skowhegan argued for a closed hearing, saying he wants to protect the girl's privacy.

Prosecutors said allowing the public and the media into the courtroom was necessary to maintain trust in the criminal justice system.

The hearing is scheduled for Thursday morning.
