Tractor Trailer Explodes Off the Maine Turnkpike

3

Kennebunk - A tractor trailer accident caused an explosion at a Maine Turnpike rest area Saturday evening.

State Police said one tractor trailer slammed into another in the parking lot of a Kennebunk rest stop and one of the trucks then burst into flames.

Troopers believe 78-year-old Don Johnson of East Corinth may have suffered a diabetic seizure at the wheel when his truck slammed into a parked tractor trailer.

Johnson and the driver of the other truck, 58-year-old Myles Whynot were taken to Biddeford hospital with minor injuries.

Johnson's dog was in the truck at the time of explosion and died.

The rest area remained open while State police and fire investigated the accident.
