Bangor -
School vacation week means lots of visitors at the Maine Discovery Museum in Bangor.
" Probably between 3 and 400. So we have a full house during winter breaks," said Trudi Plummer with the Maine Discovery Museum.
For the kids, it's a fun way to learn.
" I learned that a whale's tooth has little hairs to catch tiny fish," said Abigail, a 7-year-old at the museum.
" If you get them really excited about some of these things, that carries over into middle school, high school, and maybe even hopefully a career," said Plummer.
During Amazing Animals Day kids got to check out critters and some natural history.
" I got to see a whale's tooth and an elephant's ear," said Abigail.
They got to touch a turtle and a snake during the event.
" I like reptiles," said Chris, a 12-year-old at the museum.
" Feels kinda slimy at first and smooth at the same time," said Abigail.
Even some hissing cockroaches came out to play.
" They were kinda gross," said Abigail.
" That's an opportunity to touch things and see things up close, living things and nature things that they probably won't have anywhere else," said Plummer.
It's a fun way for the kids to spend a winter day.
