Bangor -
A pair of grants may keep your next flight from Bangor International Airport from making a surprise landing.
Over the years, the airport has dealt with an increasing problem.
Hundreds, sometimes thousands of ducks live in a canal near the runway.
Grants from the Federal Aviation Administration and Maine Department of Transportation, totaling $160 thousand, will help fund a project to fill in the canal.
Past efforts to remove the ducks have haven't worked.
The airport's director says this is a permanent solution.
"Certainly this is a permanent solution where we will fill in the drainage here. The water will still get drained but this will be a covered surface, hopefully this time this summer," said BIA director Tony Caruso.
When the canal is filled, the ducks are expected to find another place to live and will not be injured in the process.
