Acadia National Park to get Federal Funding to Improve Access

3

Bar Harbor - Maine's Acadia National Park is going to be getting $800,000 in federal funding to build an intermodal transportation center where visitors can park their cars and take a free shuttle bus to destinations throughout the park.

The funding was announced Monday by U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

The Maine project is part of a $12.5 million package of funding to improve access to national parks, forests, and wildlife refuges. The money is from the Federal Transit Administration's Paul S. Sarbanes Transit in Parks program.

The Maine project was one of 29 across the country.
