Fire Destroys Apartment Building in Unity

Unity - A fire has destroyed an apartment building in Unity on Saturday.

The fire was reported at 10:30 am, according to a Waldo County dispatcher.

Firefighters were still battling the blaze as of 3:30 on Saturday at the 7-unit apartment building and storage garage.

Only 2 of the units were occupied, leaving 4 women homeless.

TV 5 has learned that seventeen fire departments assisted with the blaze.

We'll have more information as it becomes available.

It's too bad that this happened. Unity is such a lovely town, and this was a very old building that I remember well from my growing-up years. Glad that no one was hurt.

I could see the fire from my dorm room at Unity College. Thank you to all the fire fighters that fought the blaze. It was incredible that you kept it contained.

The cat was actually found later in the evening and was returned to the owners. Ralph Nason, Jr found it while still at the building.
