Religious groups in Brewer will soon have new options when it comes to building churches.
Last January, The Rock Church was denied a permit to expand its location at the North Brewer Shopping Plaza.
That led to an investigation into the city's zoning and land use practices by the U.S. Department of Justice.
On Monday, the Brewer City Council voted unanimously in favor of adjusting to zoning laws to allow churches in 5 additional areas.
New churches will now be able to break ground in the rural, general business, industrial, office residential, and professional business districts.
