Members of the Maine Wabanaki-state Child Welfare Truth and Reconciliation Commission will be seated Tuesday at a ceremony in Hermon.
In an effort to help them with the arduous task ahead, members asked folks all around Maine to take part in a day of reflection, meditation and prayer on Monday.
The Bangor theological seminary joined in a video conference with those on the Portland campus.
The two groups were briefed on the high numbers of Wabanaki children taken from their homes and placed in state care over the years.
"As the stories come out," commented board member Gary Delong, "I'm sure it's going to stir a lot of pretty powerful feelings in people, and that's a little scary, even as we anticipate the goodness that can come from truth telling."
Other events were held at the Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor and the Wilson Center at the University of Maine in Orono.
