International Students Celebrate Chinese Holiday

3

Bangor - Students from China, who now live in Maine, also had the chance to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Husson University and the Chinese Language and Culture Center of Maine teamed up for the 10th time today to celebrate the holiday.

International high school students were also invited. Participants enjoyed a traditional New Year's dinner and a dance.

One organizer said this event helps students who may feel homesick.

Dir. CLCCM, & Pres. Bangor Chinese School, Jing Zhang said "People who are missing their family and things like that, we bring them here and they're like 'oh this is now my home and I can still celebrate in another county, the chinese new year."

Some students celebrated with a little competition. They were asked to prepare a 5-minute performance, a skit, song, or reading and the winner received a $100 prize.
