Ellsworth -
Police have identified a man who they believe is responsible for stealing checks out of mailboxes and cashing them at the Ellsworth Home Depot store.
Ellsworth Police are not releasing the man's name because he has not yet been charged. The case has been handed over to U.S. Postal Service inspectors so they can decide whether or not to file federal charges.
The man is suspected of taking more than $2,400 worth of checks from mail boxes and using them to buy items at the Ellsworth Home Depot then returning them for cash at the Bangor Home Depot.
Police say he is in police custody on separate charges.
