Fire Contained At Exeter Full Gospel Church

3

Exeter - The Full Gospel Church on Exeter Road in Exeter caught fire on Monday night.

The Penobscot Sheriff's Office received the first call around 8:30 P.M.

Fire and rescue teams responded from St. Albans, Newport, Corinna, Corinth, Pittsfield, Garland, and Dexter.

Initial reports said that flames were coming out the roof of the Pentecostal church.

The building is not considered a total loss though.

It took nearly 40 fire fighters, and despite the strong winds, they were able to contain the blaze to the back wall of the building.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire, and there were no reported injuries.

"It looks or appears that it may have been a wood stove that started in the back of the building. It was in the basement. It worked its way up through the walls to the attic. It was a little stubborn to get to but with the great mutual aid response we had tonight, we were able to contain it to the back of the building," said Shawn Richard, Corinna's Assistant Fire Chief.

The Fire Marshall was called in to investigate and is expected to examine the damage tomorrow.
