One of Bangor's finest is calling it a career.
Officer John Heitmann retired Thursday, after working in law enforcement for 36 years.
After spending 3 years in the army, Heitmann began his career as a University of Maine Orono Police Officer, in 1977.
In 1988 Heitmann, was hired in Bangor, where he worked for 11 years in patrol.
He was also on the department's special response team.
He retired as a court officer, spending 14 years in that position.
