A package of bills to protect Mainers' privacy amid the telecommunications boom is being outlined in the State House.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Maine and a bipartisan coalition of legislators will hold a news conference at the State House on Thursday afternoon to explain the bills.
One of the bills, sponsored by Democratic Sen. John Patrick of Rumford, would require law enforcement to get a warrant before using domestic drones to spy on people.
Other bills deal with tracking people by cell phone, and setting ground rules for getting text messaging content from people.
The presentation coincides with Data Privacy Day, which is marked internationally to educate people on the importance of respecting privacy and safeguarding personal information in the face of emerging technologies.
