Snowmobiler Treated for Hypothermia, Broken Rib After Falling Through Ice

3

St. Francis - A St. Francis man was treated for hypothermia and a broken rib after his snowmobile fell through the ice on the St. John River Saturday night.

Wardens say 28-year-old Travis Albert was riding snowmobiles with a friend in St. Francis around 7:00 pm. We're told they drove onto unstable ice near an open channel and Albert didn't make it across.

Wardens say he clung to an ice pack in the water for more than 20 minutes waiting for rescue. We're told citizen volunteers pulled him out of the water as game wardens arrived on scene.

Albert was taken by ambulance to Northern Maine Medical Center. Wardens say he was later taken into custody for several outstanding arrest warrants.
