Capital Area Technical Center Students Show Off Their Skills

3

Augusta - Students at the Capital Area Technical Center in Augusta got the chance to show off their skills Friday.

The annual Skills USA competition was held at there Augusta campus.

More than 350 students competed in a variety of events including culinary arts, auto body collision repair, and carpentry.

Teachers at the school tell us the students not only enjoy the competition, they're also prepared to enter the workforce as as soon as they graduate. "As a matter of fact, I've had employers come in and watch, sort of picking out a kid," said Bruce Baker, the Building Construction Instructor at CATC. "Particularly someone coming in to watch one of his employees compete. His remark was, 'I've got to give him more responsibility. I didn't know he could do all that layout.'"

Out of the 350+ students who took part in the competition around 35 of them will qualify for the state competition in Bangor this March.
