Former State Prosecutor Expected to Plead Guilty in Escape Case

3

A former state prosecutor who was arrested in New Mexico after nearly three weeks on the run is expected to plead guilty next month and avoid a trial.

Last week, 50-year-old James Cameron pleaded not guilty to a criminal contempt of court charge. It carries a sentence as high as life in prison.

Cameron's lawyer filed a motion in federal court Wednesday for Cameron to change his plea.

Once Maine's top drug prosecutor, Cameron was convicted of having child porn and was sentenced to sixteen years.

He was released from prison pending his appeal and had to wear an electronic monitor.

Prosecutors say in November he cut off the electronic bracelet and took off. He was arrested eighteen days later.

Cameron's due in court February 19th.
