Man Appeals 45-Year Sentence in Rumford Double Murder

3

Rumford - A man who's serving 45-years in prison for a double killing in Rumford is challenging that sentence.

The Maine Supreme court heard arguments Wednesday in the appeal of 22-year-old Eric Hamel.

He was sentenced in 2011 after pleading guilty to shooting two men in 2009, along with the help of his friend and his friend's girlfriend.

She was the estranged wife of one of the victims.

Hamel's sentence was longer than his two co-conspirators, which he argues is unfair and violates state law.

Richard Moulton is serving 40 years, Gayla Sheldon was sentenced to 15 years.

There's no deadline for the court to issue a ruling in the case.
