Readfield -
State police say one person is dead after a single car crash in Readfield.
Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland said a truck failed to stop at a three-way intersection on P Ridge Road and Lane Road. The driver went through the intersection and slammed into a tree on Saturday afternoon.
We're told the driver, a 17-year-old boy from Wayne, was taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. His injuries are not considered life threatening.
His passenger, Gabriel Soucy, 20, from Mt. Vernon was killed in the crash.
State Police reconstructed the crash along with the Kennebec Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities believe speed and distracted driving could be factors in crash. They also mention there was poor visibility because of fog and the road was wet.
Readfield Fire Department, Winthrop Ambulance Service, and Central Maine Power Company were all on the scene.
The district attorney's office will determine if any charges will be filed.
