The warden of the Maine State Prison has been fired.
That's according to Jim Mackie, a Union official representing corrections officers.
Patricia Barnhart became warden of the state's largest prison three years ago.
Mackie says Corrections Commissioner Joseph Ponte went to Barnhart's office Thursday morning, and fired her on the spot.
Representative Mark Dion co-chairs the criminal justice and public safety committee. He says Ponte told committee members last week he was planning to make a change, but didn't say why.
