Smoking At Bangor Parks Could Soon Be Restricted

3

Bangor - Smokers in Bangor may soon have a harder time finding outdoor areas to use tobacco products.

On Monday, the Government Operations Committee voted 3-2 in favor of addressing a proposed ordinance that would ban the use of tobacco products outside of designated areas in the city’s parks.

The ordinance will now be discussed and voted on by the 9 member city council on January 28th.

If passed, more than 30 parks and recreation areas would have to create those smoking areas.

Opponents say it's unjust behavior modification, while supporters believe it's a necessary step towards ensuring a healthy community.

This was the 5th time the issue of smoking at public parks has been addressed by the committee.
