Garage Fire Destroys Antiques in Winterport

3

Winterport - A garage and two antique cars are a total loss after a fire in Winterport Sunday evening.

Winterport Fire Chief Thomas Doe said the fire on Monroe Road started when the homeowner was working a car in the homes garage.

Doe said the man was grinding metal when a spark flew and started the blaze.

Winterport Fire Department, along with West Frankfort and Newburgh fire departments also responded.

By the time they arrived, the garage was fully engulfed in flames and the chevrolet convertible and ford pick up were destroyed.

Die said "The two antique cars are lost here. I don't believe either one was insured. The building and it's regular contents, other then the motor vehicles, is insured."

The Fire Chief says some of the siding on the home started to melt, but there is no other damage to the house.
