Mortgage Settlement Deadline Approaches

Augusta - Mainers who faced foreclosure between 2008 and 2011 could soon see some relief, but the deadline is approaching.

January 18th will be the last day you can a file claim for benefits from a national mortgage settlement.

It's part of a state and federal settlement with the nation's five largest mortgage lenders.

They plan to settle allegations what they call "robo-signing" of foreclosure documents and other fraudulent practices.

Attorney General William Schneider says $1.9 million has been set aside in Maine for payouts to borrowers
