Bangor -
Eastern Maine Medical Center and Northeast Cardiology Associates have merged.
The cardiology practice will be integrated into EMMC's Heart Center.
It's a project that's been talked about for more than a year.
" Gives us an opportunity to improve access to care and also look at efficiencies and hopefully be able to decrease cost in the long run," said Dr. James Raczek, senior vice president of operations and chief medical officer.
" We'll be able to recruit more and better cardiologists to the region. I think that will be very helpful," added Dr. Robert Hoffmann, executive medical director and lead cardiologist of EMMC Northeast Cardiology Associates.
At this point, Eastern Maine Medical Center intends to provide heart services at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor, since Northeast Cardiology Associates previously staffed it.
