The family of a Medal of Honor winner from Maine is outraged that someone stole Christmas wreaths from five stone pillars in a Portland park named for the airman.
The wreaths were stolen from the pillars at the end of the Eastern Promenade, an area named for Maj. Charles J. Loring.
Loring earned a Medal of Honor posthumously for crashing his damaged plane into an enemy gun position during the Korean War in 1952.
Bill Donnini, the husband of one of Loring's nieces, first noticed one wreath missing as he drove by the park last week. He stopped to check, thinking maybe the wind had blown them down, but they were nowhere to be found.
Paul Loring, Charles Loring's brother, tells The Portland Press Herald, people have no respect.
