Bangor -
A new Bangor ordinance will help keep more areas of the city safe for children.
The Bangor Housing Authority made a request to the city council to create two new safe zones at Griffin Park and Birch Circle. The Bangor City Council approved the ordinance Wednesday night with a vote of 8-0.
The safe zones are areas that are frequented by children.
Anyone caught dealing drugs within a safe zone will face a harsher penalty.
"We're seeing some issues that concern us all. One thing won't fix everything, but if we can take little bits to make our citizens feel more secure, I think it's a step in the right direction," said Councilor Pauline Civiello.
These two new safe zones will be added to the list of around 20 existing safe zones in the city.
