Scarborough After School Group to Participate in Inaugural Parade

3

Scarborough - A Scarborough after-school group that practices circus arts has been selected to participate in President Barack Obama's inaugural parade on Jan. 21.

U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree says the Gym Dandies will ride 6-foot unicycles in formation during the 57th Inaugural Parade.

The Gym Dandies are made up of 41 students ages 8-18 who practice circus arts such as unicycle riding, stilt walking and juggling. Jon Cahill, who founded the group when he was a physical education teacher in 1981 in Scarborough, is the director.

The group has performed at more than 80 schools and in many community events in the New England region.
