Brewer-Area Dunkin Donuts Fighting Cancer with Coffee

3

Brewer, Eddington, Holden, Milo, Orrington - Some local Dunkin Donuts shops are using cups of coffee to help fight cancer.

The owners have pledged to give one penny for every coffee sold this year to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Penobscot.

The Relay raises money for local cancer research and support programs for patients.

Six stores are taking part in the fundraiser - two in Brewer, as well as the ones in Eddington, Holden, Orrington and Milo.

General Manager Robert MacDonald says it's a simple way to fight a disease that touches so many lives.

"I've seen it first hand. I had an uncle pass away from cancer years ago and just so many people that our customers know. Everyday customers come through that have people who are going through cancer right now, cancer treatment."

The Brewer-area Dunkin Donuts stores sell about a 1 million cups of coffee a year, so they're hoping to donate $10,000.

They'll be presenting a check to the Relay for Life of Penobscot Friday morning
