Commemorative License Plates for the 2014 World Acadian Congress to be Unveiled

3

Madawaska - Maine Secretary of State Charlie Summers will unveil a new commemorative license plate that the state is issuing for the 2014 World Acadian Congress.

A news conference will be held on Wednesday to show the design and sell the first plates.

Representatives of the Maine Credit Union League will discuss their partnership with the state and World Acadian Congress to make the license plates available for sale throughout Maine.

The commemorative plates are the first produced by the state since the United States celebrated its Bicentennial in 1976.

The World Acadian Congress gathers every five years in a region of the world inhabited by Acadians, drawing 50,000 people. The 2014 event is hosted by a region encompassing northern Maine and parts of two Canadian provinces.
