A Washington County corrections officer who said he was attacked outside of the jail has quit.
Washington County's Sheriff says Sergeant Troy Lyons made the whole thing up.
Sheriff Donnie Smith says a hearing Thursday to figure out if Lyons should be fired was cancelled after Lyons handed in his resignation Thursday morning.
Smith says Lyons didn't admit to any wrongdoing in the letter.
In October, Smith said Lyons was on routine patrol when he reported someone hit him from behind.
Lyons had a cut on his head and a bruised shoulder.
Smith says an investigation proved the injuries were self-inflicted.
Smith says Lyons had no reason to lie about it except for the fact he was out of vacation and sick time.
County Commissioners accepted Lyons resignation Thursday afternoon.
