Christmas Tree Farms Report Average Year so Far

Newburgh - The owner of a Christmas tree farm in Newburgh says it's been an average season so far.

He says one thing that's hampered sales is the growing popularity of plastic trees.

Jim Corliss of Piper Mountain Christmas Trees opened the farm the day after Thanksgiving.

He says this past weekend was very busy.

Corliss says most of his trees are seven-feet or under right now, and some folks want taller trees.

As for the crop, he says it's as healthy as ever. "I don't think the economy really affects us. I think people that want the tradition of a real Christmas tree are going to have a real tree. They may buy less to put under it. But in many families it's a very strong tradition."

Corliss says the Christmas tree industry is working on developing a tree that will shed fewer needles.

Piper Mountain is open every day from now until Christmas.

You can also have trees, wreaths and centerpieces shipped to anywhere in the country. Log on to www.countryspicechristmas.com.
