As the holidays near, the L.L. Bean call center has taken on more employees.
This is the company's peak season when Bean typically adds 2,500 temporary workers at its three call centers in Maine.
Bangor's call center has more than 600 seasonal workers.
They handle calls as well as e-mail orders, and on-line chats with customers.
L.L. Bean says lots of folks shop late and the call centers get orders even on Christmas Day.
"We do," says front line supervisor at L.L. Bean's Bangor call center, Rob Tukey. "Folks looking for deals. And it's never too late to order a gift card, we can get those to you by email within two to four hours so we've actually had people who've placed those last minute orders to be delivered on Christmas day."
The Bangor call center handles a lot of customers calling in from Canada as well as those ordering L.L. Bean products to send to loved ones serving overseas in the military.
There are also call centers in Lewiston and Portland.
