An instructor at a Lewiston karate studio accused of producing child pornography made his first appearance in federal court Monday morning.
Wade Hoover of Augusta was originally charged in state court after police say they found child porn on his personal computer. Police say he was using the internet service at his office at the National Alliance on Mental Illness to distribute the images.
The federal charges came after investigators reportedly found photos and videos of Hoover sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy who appeared to be asleep. According to court documents, the boy was the son of someone Hoover knew.
The producton of child pornography charge carries a maximum sentence of 30 years.
