More Than 100,000 Wreaths Heading From Maine to Arlington National Cemetery

3

Hermon - 25 vehicles, including several tractor trailers, have hit the road, heading from Maine to Virginia with some important cargo.

In total, the Wreaths Across America convoy is carrying more than 100,000 wreaths to be placed on graves at Arlington National Cemetery.

"As a marine myself, I take it as a great honor to be able to come and haul the wreaths down to Arlington," said Eddie Hosegood, a truck driver with the American Trucking Association who's part of the convoy for the second time this year.

The Worcester Wreath Company started this tradition 21 years ago and it's grown bigger every year. It's also gained more attention every year, which is evidenced by the packed send-off ceremony at Dysarts Truck Stop in Hermon on Sunday and what the convoy experienced since the beginning of their journey from Harrington that morning.

"I was telling the driver that drove us, I've never waved to so many people in my life from Harrington to Bangor," said Morrill Worcester, Founder of Wreaths Across America.

Throughout their entire journey, through state after state, people stop and watch the convoy go by.

"I've talked about it all year, the patriotism that you see along the route really makes you proud to be an American," said Maine's First Lady Ann LePage, who is also a part of the convoy for the second time this year.

It's a lot different than when Worcester laid the first 5,000 wreaths at Arlington back in 1992.

Karen Worcester, Executive Director of Wreaths Across America, said, "What's the same is a whole bunch of people with the same spirit to remember, honor and teach. I think that's a really good feeling to let our military families and our veterans know that this time of year, a grateful nation has got their back"

A grateful nation that has made it possible for Wreaths Across America to deliver its one millionth wreath this year.

The convoy will arrive in Virginia on Saturday to lay the wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery, after making stops in several states.

In addition to the wreaths placed at Arlington, hundreds of thousands more will be placed at other military cemeteries around the country and world.
