Many students are looking forward to Christmas vacation, but students from Hancock County Technical Media Center and looking forward to a road trip.
HCTC teamed up with Wreaths Across America. They are traveling to the Arlington National Cemetary in Virginia from December 9th-15th to share the stories of veterans and their families.
Media Communications Instructor at HCTC, Benjamin Speed said Wreaths Across American contacted the school since they both have similar goals. Speed said "Their mission is to honor, to remember, and to teach, education is a huge part of what they do."
The media students will play the role of communications professionals as they capture video, pictures, and the overall experience. They are also getting elementary and middle school students involved by sharing their stories, and even taking a classroom mascot on the trip.
"They're going to come in contact with so many touching stories from veterans and gold star families," said Speed.
For one Ellsworth Senior, Vaughn Hitchcock, this trip is more than just media training. "I go to boot camp for the United States Marine Corps. on July 29th, this coming Summer," said Hitchcock. "It's going to be cool to kind of get that professionalism with the media, but also to see, meet, and hear from veterans."
