Waterville - A Winslow man is charged with murdering another man outside a Waterville pub Tuesday night.

30-year old Matthew Patridge is being held at the Kennebec County jail.

The incident happened outside the You Know Whose Pub on the East Concourse in Waterville around 11 p.m.

Authorities say 26 year old Justin Smith of China was shot in in the street following a confrontation with Patridge outside the bar. Smith was taken to MaineGeneral hospital in Waterville where he died. Police say there is no indication the two men knew each other.

Witnesses told police they saw a pickup leaving the scene after the shooting.

Patridge was arrested by a Maine State Police trooper on Route 8 in Smithfield a short time later. He was in a pickup at the time, according to the trooper.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta.

Patridge is expected to appear in court either Wednesday or Thursday.

Waterville Police as well as State police with the major crimes unit were on the scene for most of the night.
