LePage Considers Curtailment Order To Combat Low Revenue Forecast

3

Augusta - AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine's finance commissioner is recommending that Gov. Paul LePage issue a curtailment order to cut spending by $35 million to deal with weak revenues.

Finance Commissioner Sawin Millett issued his recommendation on Monday upon receipt of a formal report by the Revenue Forecasting Committee.

LePage could issue a curtailment order, or undertake other steps to reduce spending. In a statement, LePage said he's reviewing his options "in a thoughtful and meaningful way."

The Forecasting Committee's figures show revenues lagging behind earlier estimates by at least $35 million this fiscal year, which ends June 30, and by $128 million during the two-year budget cycle, which starts next July 1.
