Former Maine Prosecutor Appears in Court After Arrest in New Mexico
Augusta -
A former Maine prosecutor who disappeared just hours after an appeals court upheld his child pornography convictions has been arrested after nearly three weeks on the run.
U.S. Marshal Noel March said 50-year-old James Cameron offered no resistance when arrested by U.S. marshals Sunday morning at a convenience store in New Mexico.
Cameron disappeared in mid-November after cutting off his court-ordered electronic monitoring bracelet and driving off in his car.
Cameron was convicted of child pornography charges in 2010 and sentenced to 16 years in prison.
A federal appeals court in August 2011 ordered that Cameron be freed on unsecured bail pending his appeal. In its decision last month to uphold some of the convictions and vacate others, the appeals ordered Cameron's case back to U.S. District Court in Maine for resentencing.
